Celebrity Style Watch: AMA’s Red Carpet

The annual American Music Awards (AMAs) took place earlier this month. As with every major award show, the AMA preshow was our favourite part to watch because of the red carpet. This year, celebrity styles did not disappoint. While there was a lot going on – from futuristic mini dresses to bold colours and feminine pantsuits – our eyes were, as always, keen to pick up on smaller details.

Here is our celebrity style trend report straight from the 2018 AMA red carpet!

Statement Earrings

We mentioned this trend was going to be a big one for Fall/Winter after noticing it on the Fashion Week runways and we were not wrong! Statement earrings of all kinds showed up in a big way for the AMA red carpet. Some big winners were rocking this trend:

Taylor Swift

This look is out of this world! Rocking a futuristic, metallic mini dress and large rectangular statement earrings from Ofira Jewels, Swift opened the show with a performance of “I Did Something Bad” which literally set the stage on fire. Her futuristic look was only the beginning of her winning streak; Swift went on to set a new record for most AMAs won by a female artist.

Cardi B

Cardi B is not known to be quiet or understated and her AMA look was no different. Cardi swept through the red carpet in a gorgeous, flowing Dolce & Gabbana ball gown and massive bejewelled golden earrings that perfectly reflected her floral theme. Cardi went on to win 3 of the 8 titles she was nominated for.

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood made her first red carpet appearance since announcing that she and husband Mike Fisher are expecting their second child. Underwood was stunning in an elegant black and gold form-fitting dress with a high slit and short train. The ensemble was accented with beautiful gold dangling earrings. Underwood performed her song about addiction, “Spinning Bottles,” before winning the Favourite Female Country Artist title.

Layering Necklaces

When it comes to necklaces this season, more is more. From multiple gold chains to long pendant necklaces paired with dainty chokers, layered necklaces appears to be the next big thing. Time to get inspired – watch how these hot celebrities adapted this trend to their style:

Busy Phillips

The I Feel Pretty actress rocked the red carpet in a daringly low-cut blazer which helped to accent her layered necklaces. Wearing Irene Neuwirth crystals paired with a shorter gold chain, Phillips presented Khalid with the Favourite Male Artist Soul/R&B title during the show.

Halsey

She might be Bad at Love, but Halsey is certainly not bad at following trends! She completed her stunning purple and black look with a custom Djula diamond choker pairing.

Lexi Drew

Despite being new to the red carpet, Lexi Drew knew the AMAs are the perfect place for this red-hot dress! The actress and social media star layered ADINAS necklaces to create her picture-perfect red carpet debut.

Dainty Bracelets

If you think simple jewellery can be boring, you are totally mistaken. Celebrities are showing us that there are some seriously creative ways to wear minimalistic jewellery without losing impact. These stars look classic and put together with the dainty bracelet trend:

Ciara

Ciara showed up to the AMA red carpet with hair almost as long as her dress! The patchwork mini dress with orange and yellow accents worked because the accessories were kept to a minimum.

J-Lo

J-Lo was pretty in pink (and black) for the 2018 AMAs. Styled by Georges Chakra, a golden triangular bracelet kept J-Lo’s accessories minimal, allowing the hot pink and black look to be the star of the show.

Charisse Mills

Charisse Mills is a relatively new face in the music industry and the woman known for creating her own brand of music which she dubs “Pop’Era” – a blend of operatic signing over pop music beats. Mills highlighted her gorgeous Teal coloured Jessica Angel dress with dainty gold bangles.
